Ever heard of a Zooble?

(download)
Neither had I until this week! Megan asked for a Zooble cake for her 8th Birthday, turns out they are little plastic balls that pop open to reveal a hidden character within!

Quite a challenge, but I'm pretty pleased with the result - what do you think?

Lulubelle’s Cupcakes are coming out of the closet… …Ollie’s Closet that is!

Lulubelle’s Cupcakes and Ollie’s Closet are teaming up for a joint venture that’s the first of its kind in Dorset. This exciting partnership will see Lulubelle’s move into a specially fitted kitchen at the back of Ollie’s Closet, a children’s clothes and toy retailer in Cardigan Road, Winton.

The idea was dreamt up by two entrepreneurs Louisa Harman, who started her successful cupcake business in 2010, and Nicky Hargadon, who founded Ollie’s Closet in 2008. The two women saw an opportunity to boost both their businesses by moving in together allowing Lulubelle’s to get a presence on the high street, and Ollie’s to turn a spare storeroom into something much more exciting! They also hope to increase sales by sharing customers and plan to work together on future marketing and promotions.

From the huge cupcake shaped sign to a real presence in the shop Lulubelle’s Kitchen certainly won’t be hidden away. A huge picture window looks in on the kitchen from the shop so customers can see all the sprinkling, icing and sculpting for themselves. “We want the kitchen to reflect Lulubelle’s personality so we’re going for pink walls and a gallery of photos showing some of our favourite cakes” comments Louisa, “I’m so excited to be able to meet my customers when they come in to collect their orders, and also to start selling to passing trade through the shop and at the Winton Farmers’ Markets. I’ve got so many ideas and promotions in mind – it really is a fantastic opportunity!”

To celebrate this new partnership Lulubelle’s and Ollie’s Closet are holding a launch party taking place on Saturday June 25th from 12am to 4pm where you can sample free cupcakes and see the new kitchen. There will be face painting and children’s entertainment in store and the first 100 visitors will get an exclusive goodie bag, so pop along to treat yourself and discover all the exciting things you can now find in Ollie’s Closet!

Adam & Becky - June 10th 2011

June 10th 2011 saw the wedding of Becky and Adam at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel and we had the privilege of making their wedding cupcake tower.
We first met Becky & Adam last summer at Redhill Scout Fair, and loved the brief immediately. The couple were having an unusual Apple colouring for their wedding and wanted this reflected in the cakes, but also wanted to stick with a vintage style. We talked about roses and polka dots and eventually settled on a combination of both with a colour scheme predominantly green and cream with hints of pink. The cupcakes themselves were either an delicate Apple cake with Vanilla frosting or Vanilla sponge with an surprising Apple frosting - perfect for a summers day.

We just hope the Bride and Groom enjoyed them as

much as we enjoyed making them!

Speedy coverage...

I had a small but perfectly formed panic at the beginning of the week when I realised that we are having a stall at the fabulous Party in the Park next week and despite loads of preparation, recipe tests, ingredient purchasing and general list making I had for gotten to order aprons for my team. I’d promised them cute little aprons that would not only protect their clothes on the day but also make it clear who there were working for – Aprons with logos on!

Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever had to source this sort of thing, but from previous experience it seems to take a couple of weeks minimum, no matter how simple the design or small the order. So I panicked!

And then I hit Google and found these guys…The Clever Baggers

They had the right size aprons, were able to print on them for a very small fee and had a minimum order of 1 – perfect. My only concern was that I couldn’t find any reference to delivery schedule on the site but I figured I may as well go ahead and just keep my fingers crossed as I hadn’t found anyone else who could do it anyway.

So, yesterday morning I uploaded my logo, placed the order and crossed my fingers…

Yesterday about 2pm, I had an email back from Scarlett in the Design Team with a proof for me to check – pretty speedy I though, this bodes well! Quick estimation in my head, allowing for the Bank Holiday and Royal Mail issues I would hope the finished aprons would be with me by Friday (fingers still very much crossed!).

Imagine my surprise then, this morning, to find a package on my doorstep containing 3 perfectly printed aprons.

It’s not often these days that a service not only does what it says, but exceeds all expectations with the minimum of fuss. Clever Baggers are definitely going on my ‘websites to recommend list’ and they don’t just do aprons, if you need anything fabric printed go and check them out!

Thank you Clever Baggers – you’ve made my week :)

We were very excited last week to open the lastest package from Moo.com Not only do they produce lovely business cards, mini cards and stickers but the packaging is always so nice that we start smiling before we've even opened it!

Anyway, last weeks package was some gorgeous postcards (chosen from the huge selection of artwork available on the site) along with lovely little envelopes that are pink on the inside (girls will love this touch!). So now, if you're sending some of our cupcakes as a gift we can include a personalised message for you on one of these lovely cards.
